Asian markets trade higher in early deals on Monday

Asian equity benchmark indices are trading higher in the early deals on Monday, lifted by encouraging employment data from the US that took the Standard & Poor's 500 Index to its third straight weekly gain on Friday despite weakness earlier in the week. Meanwhile, markets are looking to policy statements from central banks in the US, UK and European Union later this week, watching for potential road maps for 2018.

Nikkei 225 gained 101.22 points or 0.44% to 22,912.30, Hang Seng added 144.52 points or 0.5% to 28,784.37, Straits Times rose 20.97 points or 0.61% to 3,445.61, Shanghai Composite spurt 13.23 points or 0.4% to 3,303.22, Taiwan Weighted jumped 99.86 points or 0.96% to 10,498.48, Jakarta Composite increased 7.01 points or 0.12% to 6,037.97, KOSPI Index rose 5.2 points or 0.21% to 2,469.20, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was up by 0.65 points or 0.04% to 1,721.90.
