Tata Steel Plans To Establish Two Units In The Gopalpur Industrial Park (20-Aug-2010)

Tata Steel plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore to establish two units in the Gopalpur Industrial Park being developed by it in Ganjam district of Orissa, out of which the company will spend about Rs 250 crore to set up a 50,000 tonnes a year ferro-chrome plant. The company will also put up a 400,000 tonnes a year re-bar steel mill. These units are expected to be operational by the end of 2012.
Tata Steel will use the strength of companies in the Tata Group to develop the internal and external infrastructure with a view to attracting maximum investment upto Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore through establishment of ancillary and downstream industrial units in the area to the industrial park. With the establishment of ancillary and downstream units this industrial park is expected to generate employment for around 15,000 persons.
The Gopalpur Industrial Park, coming up on 3,200 acres was taken over by the company more than a decade ago for the mega steel plant near Gopalpur that the company had then proposed.
