English Translation:
Jute prices may witness a fall if the proposed 25 per cent dilution of the Jute Packaging Materials Act (JPMA) of 1987 comes through, according to industry experts. However, the prices have already crashed by more than 40 per cent or Rs 1,400 a quintal in August.
The price per quintal of raw jute is ruling at Rs 1,800 in August, losing from Rs 3,200 in July. The poor rainfall has impacted the retting of jute crops thereby producing lower quality. The problem of farmers has been further compounded by the absence of buyers in the market, according to Mr Sanjay Kajaria, Chairman, Indian Jute Mills' Association.
