Bharti Airtel highest revenue paying Telco in Q3
Bharti Airtel has paid the highest revenue both in terms of spectrum charges and licence fees, to the government for the Q-3 ending 31st December 2009.

As per the data released by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), Bharti Airtel has paid Rs. 570.17 crore as licence fees while Rs. 301.49 crore towards the spectrum charge for the Q-3 ended 31st December 2009.

The company has also added 2.85 mn new users in the month of December 2009.
The stock is currently trading at Rs.314.1

The stock hit an intraday high of Rs.316.4 till now, as against the 52-week high of Rs.495.The stock hit a low of Rs.310.7 during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs.229.5 on 11/02/2010 10:20:00 AM.
The stock opens at Rs.315.3 at BSE. The total traded volume of the scrip on BSE till now stood at 155659.

Meanwhile today, the BSE Sensex is trading up by 237.90 points, or 1.49% , at 16160.07 on 10:20 AM.

Meanwhile today, the NSE Nifty is trading up by 69.20 points, or 1.45% , at 4826.4.


Bharti Airtel has an equity capital of Rs 1,898.48 crore as of 2009 Dec. The face value per share is Rs 5. At the current price of Rs 314.1, the P/E multiple stood at 15.467405427934 with book Value of 72.49 and P/BV at 4.33.

The total shareholding pattern of the company as on Dec 2009 stood at Promoters- 67.84%, Institutional Investors- 25.45%, General Public- 2.11% and other investors- 4.60%.

Considering the current price of Rs. 314.1 at 10:20:00 AM , the stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 11/02/2010 declined -2.5% as compared to the Sensex''s return of -7.25% and NSE Nifty''s -7.25 % returns.

Considering the current price of Rs. 314.1 at 10:20:00 AM , the stock had outperformed the market over the past one quarter till 11/02/2010 surged 3.66% as compared to the Sensex''s return of -5.12% and NSE Nifty''s -5.12 % returns.

There has been a continuous discussion among the incumbent GSM operators (like Bharti and Vodafone) and CDMA players (like Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices) that the GSM operators were paying heavy spectrum charges as compared with others Telcos.

Whereas, the GSM operators claim that they are being charged much higher for every unit of spectrum usage.
As per the TRAI''s records, Bharti''s total outgo on licence fees and spectrum charges together for the Q3 was more than double the amount paid by the two leading CDMA players - RCom and TTSL together.

Bharti paid Rs. 871.66 crore to the government, while RCom and TTSL together paid only Rs 401.81 crore for the Q-3 ended 31st December 2009.

Bharti Airtel formerly known as Bharti Tele-Ventures LTD (BTVL) is the largest private cellular service provider in India, with more than 110 mn subscribers as of 2009. With this, Bharti is now the worlds 3rd-largest, single-country mobile operator and 6th-largest integrated telecom operator.

It also offers fixed line services and broadband services. It offers its TELECOM services under the Airtel brand and is headed by Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal. The company has a submarine cable landing station at Chennai, which connects the submarine cable connecting Chennai and Singapore.

The company is structured into 4 strategic business units - Mobile, Telemedia, Enterprise and Digital TV. The mobile business offers services in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The Telemedia business provides broadband, IPTV and telephone services in 95 Indian cities. The Digital TV business provides Direct-to-Home TV services across India. The Enterprise business provides end-to-end telecom solutions to corporate customers and national and international long distance services to Telcos.

The Group has posted a net profit of Rs. 22369.00 mn for the Q-3 ended 31st December 2009 as compared to Rs. 19764.10 mn for the corresponding period of the previous year. Total Income has also increased from Rs. 96885.00 mn for the Q-3 ended 31st December 2008 to Rs. 103275.70 mn for the Q-3 ended 31st December 2009.
