Government estimates 300.59 LT of wheat procurement during 2015-16 (17-Feb-2015)

For Ravi Marketing Season (RMS) 2015-16, the Government has fixed procurement target as 300.59 lakh tonnes (LT) against the actual wheat procurement of 280.23 LT during RMS 2014-15. The target was fixed in the meeting of State Food Secretaries held to discuss procurement arrangements.

The Government has also fixed target for overall rice procurement for Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2014-15, as 351.09 LT which include 300.50 LT for kharif crop and 50.59 LT for Rabi crop. The actual procurement of rice during KMS 2013-14 and KMS 2014-15 so far has been reported as 318.39 LT and 207.44 LT respectively.

The procurement estimates of main wheat growing states as reported are Punjab - 120 LT, Haryana- 70 LT, Madhya Pradesh- 60 LT, Uttar Pradesh- 30 LT and Rajasthan- 18 LT.

Further, rice procurement for Rabi crop during KMS 2014-15 of main rice growing states during the season are Odisha- 6.70 LT, West Bengal - 9.15 LT, Telangana - 14.74 LT, Tamil Nadu - 10 LT and Andhra Pradesh - 10 LT.
