Coffee Export Dipped (05-Feb-2010)

On February 05, 2010, The International coffee organization (ICO) said that during the first three months (October - September) of 2009-10 the coffee export dipped by 9.36 per cent millions bags.
The ICO said that due to the poor shipment from the leading exporters Brazil, Vietnam and Columbia led to the fall. In the same period last year the global coffee export was rating at 23.5 million bags (1 bag contains 60 kg of coffee).
According to the ICO, the shipment from Brazil (world's leading coffee exporter) fell down by 7.93 million bags during the first three months of 2009-10 seasons. Brazil had exported 9.26 million bags in the same period a year ago.
Colombia recorded a turn down to 1.93 million bags from 2.76 million bags.
Whereas, Vietnam, the world's second biggest exporter of the commodity also shipped its bags to 3.57 million a little bit down from 3.87 million bags.
On the other hand, Indonesia's shipment went up by 1.55 million bags from 1.38 million bags and it exported a slightly higher quantity of coffee during the period under the appraisal.
The ICO said, in 2009 calendar year, the world coffee exports were to the tune of 94.7 million bags against 97.7 million bags in previous year.
Adding to it, The ICO also said that in the current year the global coffee production is expected to be lesser at 123 million bags.
